As you can see in the chart above, the US dollar continued its ascent against both the Euro and the Pound this week.  Cable Glider had a really inefficient entry after the US Labor Day holiday.  I second guessed it and cut the profit short.  It turns out that it would have closed out for a bigger profit.  The Euro Ranger was idle all this week.  It typically sits out when a market is strongly trending, and that’s exactly what it did this week.  I suppose the disappointment is that the Cable Glider system was unable to capture more of the move.

I made a minor (and very correct) tweak to the Euro Ranger system this week.  I’d like for it to stand aside until after the ECB announces its interest rate decision.  This means staying idle until after 7:45 AM Eastern time on Thursday morning.  Previously, the system was incorrectly programmed to stand aside only until 7:30 AM, which is 30 minutes after the Bank of England makes its policy announcement.  Curiously, had I not made this adjustment, the Euro Ranger would have entered a profitable trade at 7:30 AM !  Oh well.

Friday’s employment data in the US sparked a rally in both the Euro and the Pound, but it was not enough to trigger an entry in either system.

I’ve updated my results charts in the sidebar.  Since I’m now fully committed to trading both systems, I’ve marked the middle of August 2008 as the beginning of the Double Edge Sword era of my trading career.  Usually, we refer to leverage as the Double-Edged sword, meaning that it has the ability to greatly amplify both our gains and our losses.  I’ve chosen the name Double Edge sword for my two system approach as a reminder of the fact that both systems have an edge, and together they produce an amplified return….or so I hope!
