Net monthly return on risk capital : (-1.6 %)
Well, so far this month Cable Glider opened up with a big loss and followed it with three small wins, leaving it slightly down for the month. In truth, the system has been stuck in neutral since mid-August, returning just over 2% in the last eight weeks. I’m noticing a greater degree of personal anxiety each time I enter a trade these days. Something feels a bit off, but essentially going sideways is preferable to an equity curve crater for sure.Â
Cable Glider’s winning trades are typically larger than its losing trades, but this has not been the case over the past two months or so. The increased anxiety seems to be an unexpected consequence of a higher percentage of winning trades…somehow, when I’ve been winning about 2 trades out of 3, my brain wants to round that up to 100% and feel bad whenever there is any losing trade…of course, this would be like watching a baseball game and being shocked every time the hitter with the .300 average gets a hit! Anyway, I need to remind myself that losing trades are to be expected…I know, big revelation, right?
In the back of my mind, I’m wondering how the system will fare if the Fed continues to lower rates. Cable Glider has not been tested in a falling interest rate regime. Fortunately, I have the data to perform that test, so it looks like I have a weekend backtesting project in addition to the mental work I need to do to restore my confidence in the system.
Finally, I need to entertain the idea that the anxiety I’m experiencing during this sideways period is stemming from the fact that I REALLY like this full time trading thing! Since I’m not sure that I’ll never need a “regular” job again, this nags at me each time I experience a trading loss.
With all the of the above having been said, now that I have started trading Cable Glider 3, all urges to override system signals have completely vanished, and that should help me to reach the next equity peak sooner.
